At Secrest Family Chiropractic, PC, we are proud to offer our patients cold laser therapy, a form of healing that uses a laser beam. We currently offer this free with a chiropractic adjustment. Learn more about what cold laser therapy is and how it can help treat your injuries.
Low Level Light Laser or Cold Laser Therapy is a treatment we offer on an "as needed" basis. We use this healing method as a precursor to chiropractic adjustments. By exposing our patients to low levels of laser beam before adjustments, we are able to make the adjustments quicker and increase their effectiveness. We find that adjustments last longer when we give laser therapy beforehand.
According to the American Chiropractic Association, Low Level Laser Therapy places laser light in contact with the skin so its light energy can penetrate tissue without breaking the skin. The light used is red and near-infrared monochromatic light, which has been shown to activate the body's natural healing capabilities.
Studies have also shown that cold laser therapy has helped heal headaches, sinus issues, and muscle spasms. The laser can break up scar tissue for faster healing after surgery. Dr. Daniel P. Secrest, DC, our Scottsdale chiropractor, can speak with you more about your medical needs and advise you on whether cold laser therapy would be beneficial for treating your specific needs.
Approved by the FDA for pain control and inflammation, laser therapy is safe for individuals of all ages. The light beam penetrates into the cell tissue, and generates a natural vibration among the body's cells. There are some contraindications for low level laser therapy. Pregnant women should not receive this treatment during their pregnancy. Lasers should not be used near the eyes and may impact pre-existing thyroid conditions. If you have any questions about whether you would be a good fit for low laser light therapy, we can discuss your situation.
During treatment, our chiropractor can adjust the levels of laser light to penetrate more or less deep into the skin, in order to address the health need. For example, to break apart scar tissue we would adjust the laser beam light to penetrate to the right depth to target your scar tissue. This process is easy to do in our office and can take place before your scheduled chiropractic treatment.
