A Breakthrough in Pain & Inflammation Control
(Offered FREE with your Chiropractic adjustment)
We have recently completed a series of clinical studies at Secrest Family Chiropractic, involving the cooperation of several of our progressive patients who have suffered from acute pain and inflammation (thank you, all). Each participated in the use of a Controlled Action Taping Technique (CATT)--often referred to by the brand name of the tape used called "Kinesio Tape" and applied directly to the afflicted area after their chiropractic adjustment.
The purpose of the treatment was to (1) reduce inflammation, (2) manage pain and (3) retrain the distorted soft tissue (muscles & ligaments) to return to proper positioning (adjustment) and function. The results were overwhelmingly positive.
Some reported they were “able to finally sleep through the night” and awoke with little inflammation or pain. In some cases, swelling was greatly reduced in as little as four hours. Patients stated that their range of motion was maintained while being taped and many noted that strength (power) returned to the affected muscles. Wow! What a happy event to report.
Personal Background: One of the major reasons I became a chiropractic physician was my great empathy for individuals in chronic pain. This was created by my own personal experiences earlier in life and is the reason I chose to search for techniques that go beyond traditional structural correction. It has heavily influenced me to introduce soft tissue physiotherapy into my practice and to seek advanced methods of treatment for my patients.
Two of the major advancements in my practice have been the use ofKoren Specific Technique (KST) and Low Level Light Laser. Yet, despite the advantages of both, I have still agonized over a way to rapidly reduce inflammation and bring about faster relief from pain—especially in the acute stage of a traumatized condition. I have often wished I could just hold the patient’s afflicted area in my hands until healing could begin—just like a mother would hold a crying small child in her loving arms, until a crisis subsides.
How CATT Works: During the last Olympics, I am sure many of you noticed the strange red, black and blue designs many of the athletes wore on their exposed skin during competition. They wore them in bold colors, like a badge of honor and continued to perform at championship levels of competition, while coping with soft tissue injuries. These taping designs (applications) were totally different from traditional methods that often restricted the movements (range of motion) of the athletes.
The tape composition is quite different in that it is breathable, 100% cotton, has an elastic quality and an acrylic adhesive rather than the more common latex. This is good news for individuals who have allergies to latex. The tape is capable of being worn for 48-72 hours and can be wet after the first hour of application. It is comfortable, and is not restrictive to your normal range of motion.
Using only slight tension, this technique holds your adjustment longer (in those loving mother’s arms), while the swelling is reduced and the soft tissue retrained to its proper position. Pain subsides more quickly too, as your body strength increases. There is also a lymphatic quality to the technique that quickly reduces inflammation when the tape is applied in some very unconventional patterns. Since each patient’s body condition is different with very specific needs, I have called upon the applied kinesiology diagnostic training of KST to direct me in the proper pattern placement. This service is offered FREE with your chiropractic adjustment.
If you are suffering with an inflamed body part and pain that will not go away,
I encourage you to make an appointment to see if you qualify for CATT.
